Excuse me a second while I write a quick note to the Iowa Department of Transportation (also known as the I-235 Department of Destruction). You know those hundred thousand dollar signs that you’ve installed along the freeway and overhead the interstate? Especially that one at 31st Street eastbound… Use them!! Thanks, Bye.
So last night on my way to work I decided to take I-235. I know, that was the first mistake, but really only the west bound exits are being affected by closures right now, I was running a little late, so I figured it would be okay. Well, not so. I get to the 7th St. exit… and it’s closed! So is the 5th street one. AWESOME!
I finally get to an open exit ramp (NE 14th St.) and have to get off there so I can turn around and come back west bound and get off at 7th street. Now, sure, I could have avoided all this by not taking the freeway at all, but it’s 8 pm at night, so heavy traffic shouldn’t have been a problem. My issue is had they used the sign at 31st street, I would have exited at MLK. Problem solved! Seriously, I don’t know why they put up those damn signs anyway. The only time I’ve seen it used was for wrestling and basketball. Then it was only for out of towners who probably didn’t know how to read anyway.
All right, I feel a bit better now…
