Would anyone be willing to take away my card that allows me to witness all kinds of idiotic and stupid behavior almost everytime I go out?  Tonight on my way home from Ankeny, I saw someone coming up behind me very fast.  He moved to pass me on the right, but there was a car just barely ahead of me in that lane.  He lost control, struck the car in the right lane, and then slid sideways for a couple hundred feet right in front of me.  Luckily, I noticed the idiot was coming up on me and had already started to try to figure out a way to avoid him.  I was able to stop just feet from the side of his car.  Then… he took off!  Yep, a hit and run.  I almost wish I had followed him, but I pulled over to see whether the people in the other car were okay.  They had rolled into the ditch and were in a convertable.  I'm not sure how the driver made out, but the male passenger had a very broken leg.

So…  if anyone happens to see a white 4-door car (that's all I saw) probably with driver's side front end damage, that would probably be the vehicle that did the hitting and the running.  The accident probably happened around 1.20am and I just now got home.

Seriously, I need to stop seeing stupid behavior when I'm out in the world.  I'm not exaggerating either, you can probably ask almost anyone I've ever gone out with in a car or on a bike ride and something stupid has probably happened when I'm with them.

For anyone who doesn't already know, Jason got a wish granted from the Make A Wish Foundation.  The whole family; Becky, Sheldon, Joey, Jason, and their care worker Jenna will be traveling down for a week.  They leave today and will come back on January 1st.  Want to stalk them while they're in the air like you did to me?  Lucky you!  You can.  Below is the info:

Northwest Airlines #1041:  640a Des Moines-Minneapolis
Northwest Airlines #578:  840a Minneapolis-Orlando

They'll be staying at the Give Kids the World Village. And, if you're near Des Moines, don't forget to visit Jolly Holiday Lights at Water Works Park.  Admission is $9 per car load and proceeds go to the Iowa Make A Wish foundation.

..and to all a goodnight.  I'm heading home for our immediate family Christmas today.  I took Friday-Sunday off at work so I'll be out of town until Tuesday night.  It'll be great!  I haven't had a normal weekend off since Dustin & Kim's wedding.  It's long overdue.  The person who makes schedules at work made a comment about me taking so many days off and I nearly punched him.  "You know, I wouldn't have to take so many days off if I had my weekend with the rest of the world."  He didn't say anything after that.  Cool

So, anyway, I'm off.  In case you're looking for a good Christmas streaming station, I've been listing to the Christmas Lounge channel on SomaFM .  There's another one on there called Xmas in Frisco, though you may not want to listen to that one at work.

I discovered a side effect of disabling my email account this weekend… it lost all of my whitelisted addresses.  So, for a while it may take me a little longer than usual to reply back if your message happens to get trapped by the spam filters.  Which if you think about it is retarded, because spam is the only thing making it through the spam filter.

I'm trying to get rid of some spam that's coming through my mail server this weekend, so I will be disabling my account until early Monday morning.  Any messages you send me this weekend will bounce back.  In the meantime, you can email me at ryan.westendorf(at)gmail(dot)com.  Or just plop a message in the MeeboMe box on this page.

Just a note for anyone who uses the warning map stream …  Don't freak because the time stamp doesn't change every second.  I've changed it a bit so the image only actually updates when a new product is received, or every 5 minutes.  Just thought you'd want to know.  :)

Unless you read this with a screen reading program, you may have noticed a bit of a change on the site this week.  Actually, it's a pretty big change.  I finally found a theme that I liked as a starting base and then modified it a bit to suit my tastes.  But what about yours?  Like it?  Hate it?  Hungry?  Let me know.  Laughing

For all that Mediacom does dumb or wrong, they at least finally rolled out an upgrade to our internet speed this week.  Just yesterday I had this for a speed test:

And now tonight I get this:

Looks like I should finally be able to start uploading my pictures to Flickr at full size without having to resize them all.  I'll probably find some other crap to occupy the new found speeds, too.  If you have Mediacom and haven't noticed the new speeds, try rebooting your modem to grab a new config file.
