Archive for January, 2007

You know, that either sounds like an Australian song or a very dirty movie.  Anyways, things are suddenly changing very quickly at work.  I can't say for sure how it's going to effect me, but I'm sure something is going to change at least a little bit.  Many changes have happened in the past week and I'm sure more will come in the next week or two also.

In non-work news, Justin has a new webpage. Why am I writing that as if you cared?  Well, for one, most of you are family.  The other reason is that it forced me to figure out some more things about my server.  I now know how to setup private FTP accounts for people that allows them to host a website or files on my server…so I'm opening up hosting to any family that want a simple webpage or whatever you want.  It can be a great way to keep in touch with other family members or friends.  Or it can just be another way for you to say, "Hey look, I'm on the internets!"  I wouldn't even censor any pictures that might happen to be posted of yours truly.  See?  I'm an equal opportunity embarasser.

Another site of the week update is MyKin.US.  It's a pretty cool website where family members can join an share information with other family members.  Consider it the Facebook of families.  I'm already on, so you can sign up and then find me on it.  Some things are a little weird in how it works.  For example, a few hours after I began playing with the site I accidentally married my dad to himself.  I suppose that sort of stuff is okay in New Hampshire, but it sure make the website upset.

** EDIT **  I've struck out all of the above… I'm going to see if I can't setup something on my own site that can do basically the same thing.

That's how long it's been since an update.  What groundbreaking, earth-shattering post do I have for you?

Hey, I didn't say it was going to be good! Cool

A few mostly random updates for tonight.  If you've been watching or reading the news at all lately, you already know about the pissing match battle going on between Mediacom and Sinclair. Well, Saturday morning at 12:00:34am (I was recording it for a story at work), Mediacom had to pull the plug on Sinclair owned stations across the country.  It's really no biggie for me, since I prefer to watch the digital signals for the stations anyway, whether it's via antenna or cable.  What did effect me, though, were the disconnects Mediacom was doing.  My complex is fairly old and the port that my apartment is supposed to be plugged into has some problem.  A few people in the complex dumped Mediacom in favor of dish and Mediacom sent out techs Saturday to disconnect them.  The problem?  I was also disconnected.  I was able to catch the guy, but he argued it was because I was on the wrong port.  He hooked me back up to my old port, but that one can only cause me problems.  He said I'd have to make a service call to get it fixed.  (I'll let you figure out why he couldn't do it, I honestly have no idea.)  After an hour and a half trying to get to someone I finally got someone on the phone.  The service call was scheduled… in a week and a half!  Ryan entered not happy mood.  I called back tonight at work, and was told someone had already gone out to fix it.

This is after I've already had problems for a couple weeks with my connection.  Those problems, though, are related to my router.  I think the hard drive in the computer I use has finally passed gas and creating the bottleneck.  I've already change the modem ethernet card, now I have to change the local network card, and then finally the hard drive before giving up and curling up into a ball.  This has effected a few services I offer such as the PepperCam & the live weather warning map.  Hopefully I'll be able to get those back up and running soon.

In not-home-but-work news… I found pens!!  Seriously, sometimes it takes so little to make me happy, and this week it is the discovery of my long-lost secret stash of pens.  Now to hide them in my locker.

That's it for now… more later on how the moaning of Mediacom subscribers is getting on my nerves.  Smile

Over the weekend I changed my header image just a bit.  For those of you who thought something looked a bit different, you win…the satisfaction of knowing something was different.  I created a mosaic of the old image using all the photos I currently had stored on my computer, which is a lot.  To check out the full size version, head over to this link, but be forewarned, it's a large file so I probably wouldn't touch it with a fifty foot stick if I was on dial-up  (Mom, I'm talking to you.)  :)

The whole Coffin clan is back from their trip to Florida.  We've already uploaded their photos to my Flickr account so that all can enjoy.  Becky may get around to adding captions to the photos, but until the you can use your imagination to figure out what everything is.  :)   There's a lot of pictures, so I wouldn't hold my breath on getting all the captions too soon.

And of course, if you want to help donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and help other kids like Jason & Joey realize their wishes, head over to IowaWish.org to see how you can help out.
