I’ve been a bit slow on update my Flickr photos, so here’s a rundown of what I sent up tonight…

Last Wednesday I went down to watch Pam & Sam do their working exhibit at the Iowa State Fair. There was even a photo op with Cy.

Then tonight I finally got off at my scheduled time, so I was able to get out and try to find some lightning. I didn’t exactly get what I wanted, but I did at least get a couple cool shots.

And as a bonus, I even caught a plane taking off from Des Moines and ascending into the cloud deck.
Taking off

I’ve started to get involved a bit with the Hurricane WX Net a bit and am relaying the net traffic through a shoutcast stream. You can use any standard MP3 player capable of streaming audio to listen to the stream, just head over to http://rwest.homeip.net:8000/. The stream has a 32 user max. I don’t anticipate reaching that, but if the hurricane looks like it will make landfall it may get more hits. Guess I’ll find out then whether my internet connection can handle all the listeners.

Update

I’ve closed my server as newer better ones have come online. If you still want to listen, visit VOIP-WxNet and look for the streaming links on the left side.

This AMBER Alert has been cancelled, although the children are still thought to be with their non-custodial mother and boyfriend heading to Maine.

This is an Iowa AMBER Alert. Iowa Law Enforcement has determined that two children have been abducted and the lives of the child are in danger.

The abducted children are: Rae Ann Meyer, an 8 year old white female. She is 4’0″, weighs 65 pounds, and has blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a green short sleeve shirt, green camo capris and dark flip flops. Cameron A. Meyer, a 10 year old while male. He is 4’6″, weighs 110 pounds, and has light brown hair and blue eyes.

The children were reported taken by their non-custodial biological mother and boyfriend from Oakland, Iowa.

The suspects are 30 year old Brandi Harris, a white female who is 5’5″, 140 pounds; and Vince Hatch, a white male who is 6’0″, 180 pounds.

All are believed to be enroute on I-80 to Hermon, Maine in a black 2004 Toyota RAV4 with Maine plates: 6228KJ.

Anyone seeing the suspects or vehicle should call 911.

The power is out again in my living room. I’m about to start something on fire just so I can get it fixed. That along with this damn alarm on one of the computers in master control is driving me absolutely insane. I’ve yelled many a “red” word tonight. Actually, I think that I have run out of words I know… it’s seriously ridiculous.

I think that I’ve got the power problem figured out in my apartment. After alternating between not having the computer or the TV plugged in, the power still blinked, and actually went completely out tonight before work. So, I called Dave the Maintenance Guy (it should say that on his business cards if it doesn’t) to come over and take a look. After waiting for the upstairs elephants neighbors to go back and forth in the living room a bit, he decided it was a loose connection somewhere. First he tried the circuit breaker connection, it seemed to solve the problem, so he left. He no longer than entered his apartment when the power went out again.

So, he came back, and this time went from outlet to outlet to see which one was loose. He joked that it would be the last outlet he checked… but then, would you really keep checking after you had found it? Anyway, the third outlet was the charm, so now we’ll see if I can keep the lights on for more than a few hours at a time this week.

For about the past 3 weeks I’ve been having bizarre power problems in my apartment. In one half, the living room/kitchen side, the power has infrequently been flickering to the point of actually completely going out. I’m still trying to figure out what’s causing it as I’m sure it’s something I’ve got plugged in. My PVR2 computer behind the TV is my current suspect. I’ve unplugged it and am running a smokeping to make sure it’s not something else. Hopefully it’s not the TV, but that’s about the only other thing that I have and use that I can think of. :-/
