Thwarting thieves on EbayBike theft is a depressingly common problem, and sadly many people don’t expect to get their bike back. There are various tactics and schemes to help you reclaim your bike if the thief tries to sell it on, and having a very good description and photo, a note of the serial number and a microchip tag can all help. However the rise of internet auction and small advert sites provide a more anonymous way for thieves to sell bikes on, and many buyers probably don’t think to ask for the serial number to check with databases like Immobilise. Magdalen Jagri is frustrated by this and has set up a petition to ask sites like Ebay or Gumtree to make the inclusion of a serial number compulsory in adverts, which would make searching for stolen machines easier. You can sign the petition here on ipetitions.
